The glass block realized for the Thermal Resort in Panticosa on the Pyrenees The harmonious union between nature and “tailor made” product: Belen Moneo and Seves (2005- 2007) In 2005 Seves is called from the architects Belen Moneo and Jeff Brock to realize a special glass block whose characteristic was to be in harmony with a natural and stainless landscape. The scenery is a green valley surrounded by high peaks of the Spanish Pyrenees, with a long antique tradition connected to nature and wellness. The first Thermal Baths built in this natural heaven dates back to Romans' Age. A small secret town, hidden between mountains, where the thermal baths are completely immersed in nature and become a source of new regeneration for those who likes spending their time taking care of their body and soul. Recently, the decision to recreate the hole structure restoring to the ancient magnificence and the luxury of the past. The Thermal building is situated between nature, on one side, and the rest of the urban construction that form the Resort, on the other. It's essential that the surface of the building is projected in harmony with both the contexts. The facade is entirely projected as a covering that filters the natural light without blinding, however allowing the flux of light from outside. Seves Glass block is again the perfect solution, thanks to the flexibility of structure and harmony of the material that perfectly matches with the surrounding place as requested by the architects. A new glass block of 30x30cm is realized, characterized by a trapezoid side wall cross-section due to the inclination of 5 degrees of the two parallel faces. It is realized in a satin finished version in order allow a delicate and softness lighting. The installation is realized with a vertical overlaying of one brick on top of the other, bringing the smaller base into contact with the larger base of the next brick. The result is a facade that seems to move itself, as magic leaves of glass that dance sinuously at the blowing of the wind together with the surrounding nature. 30.000 glass blocks were used. The final result will be a building like a “jewel case” for wellness on the Pyrenees composed by 4 different areas, including gyms for many kinds of sports, huge swimming pools for thermal baths, restaurants and areas for a complete relax in nature of Spanish Pyrenees. The inaugural ceremony will be at mid of 2007.
