Capdell decorates with the armchair Novecento, the terrace of the new building of the Opera in Bjørvika, Oslo. Emerging from the sea in the center of Oslo, the recently built Opera is the new futurist building of the Norwegian capital. The construction has been inspired in a floe that emerges from the sea and it is characterized by its surface covered in marble and an enormous crystal front with solar panels. The most romantic armchair of Capdell, Novecento, conceived from a perspective based on classic shapes, it is supposed to be an attractive reflection of the multiple possibilities that polyprolylene offers. It suits perfectly the terrace of the opera. The building has been designed by the architecture studio Snøhetta, also in charge of the design of the Alexandrine Library in Egypt and the Embassy of Norway in Berlin. The Opera is the biggest project of the cultural area in our days in Norway. The are of the Opera is 38.000 m2. The complete building has a total of 1.100 rooms, distributed in different sections. The main hall of the Opera consists of a wide open space, with a minimalist decoration and the use of simple materials such as stone, concrete, crystal and wood. The cafeteria is the visitor's meeting point and the terrace is perfect to enjoy in the warmest days. It is there where it is possible to enjoy the comfort and beauty of Novecento. The main auditorium has been built in a classic horseshoe shape in several levels, with a high roof that creates a natural acoustic. Here, simple materials as the wood have been used as well. On the other hand, the main auditorium has been decorated with oak treated with ammonia. It has won the Prize of Contemporary Architecture of the European Union 2009.
