”Helping you create the future you wish”, gathering the sharpest minds, the best tools and a wide range of financial services: that is the mission for Barclays, a bank counting headquarters in 60 countries, 118 thousand employees, managing over 27 million clients' money. The new Barclays headquarter in One Churchill Place in London, 29 floors and over 70.000 sqm, had as one of their main objectives that of giving not only to customers, but also to employees, the chance of “creating the future they wished”. The project was entrusted to Pringle Brandon, a high profile architects and consultants studio in London, renowned for their strong innovative potential.Pringle Brandon shows a particular interest towards the ever changing role of culture in the work place, and the role of design in helping organize this change. The key points of the project, on top of the management and employees offices, included also five large rooms with a coffee bar, a restaurant, meeting rooms, an elegant dining room, a congress room and a 200 seats auditorium Sharing aims and objectives while carrying out the project has been truly useful. The job was not just about look and aesthetics, but also focused on the functionality of the overall project. Better performances, and a stunning enhancement of space. The unique beauty, and the enriching side of this experience has been the strong personalisation and the interaction amongst the value chain partners.Transparency, something that work places and social environments can't do without, had to be combined with the privacy of management offices and meeting rooms.Nordwall's DUO partitions system answered perfectly to the project's complex needs, allowing smooth interaction between transparency, socialising, and privacy. The central area, to be used as a self-service and bar café, is marked by curved glass, made unique by its exceptional thermic and structural performances, designed and shaped ad-hoc.This extraordinary building represents one of the safest and most efficient structures in Europe. An utter microclimate, perfect ergonomics, an intense flow of sensations.“All of us involved in the project believe we have created something that will straight away become a classic of architecture” said Sir Peter Middleton, President of Barclays.
