Wausau, Wis. (March 2009) -- Kolbe expands upon its green initiative as a sponsor and window and door provider for the 2009 Green Builder® VISION House. Sited near Aspen, Colo., the 2009 VISION House is the latest in a sequence of showcase home projects that demonstrate the benefits of sustainable design, construction, and product selection. “It's an honor to be involved with the VISION House program,” says Cindy Bremer, Kolbe's director of marketing. “We have a commitment to producing energy-efficient products using environmentally friendly processes and suppliers, so our participation in a project that promotes sustainability is a natural fit.”Ron Jones, editorial director of Green Builder Magazine agrees and adds, “The combination of Kolbe's quality, features and options, made it a unanimous choice for the project's decision makers who selected from a wide selection of potential window manufacturers.”The 2009 VISION House will showcase a range of styles, technologies and products such as Kolbe's Ultra Series premium, aluminum-clad windows and doors. Offering designers, builders and homeowners exceptional creative flexibility and performance longevity, Ultra Series are available in energy-efficient glass options, a broad palette of finishes and interior wood species, and other accessories to coordinate with nearly any décor. For VISION House, Kolbe's Ultra Series windows are constructed of alder, which is widely recognized as a sustainable species. The windows' exterior cladding is composed of recycled aluminum and finished with a durable anodize, and accented with a custom, flat profile, Performance Divided Lites (PDLs). Kolbe's Ultra Series products come standard with energy-efficient LoE2-270 (pronounced “low E, squared, 270”) double-pane insulating glass units with argon, enabling the products to meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® guidelines in all climate zones. LoE2-270 glass allows any project to achieve maximum visible light, while blocking 86% of the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, thereby protecting furniture, fabrics and carpeting from fading. Kolbe's production process also is environmentally friendly, creating no emissions or residues. The Ultra Series products' thermal performance are enhanced by air-tight corners, dual-sealed edges and Thermo-Edge spacers that prevent heat loss around the edges of the glass units, reducing the potential for interior condensation, and improving overall U-value. The windows were installed in autumn of 2008 following a summer groundbreaking on the 2009 VISION House. Project completion is expected at the end of 2009. Once completed, the home will be rated for four different guidelines: LEED® for Homes, Built Green Colorado, Aspen's green building requirements, and the National Association of Home Builders' (NAH
