Light hidden away in a box, to be brought out and exposed. A lamp that is adjusted by a touch of the hand, doing away with dimmers and superfluous technology. A lamp that is both unusual and possesses a self-evident utility. Jonas Hakaniemi's Box Light delivers an elegant sense of sufficiency; an ambient lamp with simple manual operation. This is as straightforward as interactive design can get. “Touch the lamp! Create your own light by sliding the lid,” says Jonas, adding that Box Light developed from an idea about using recycled materials for a lamp. The final result has acquired a definite form and a practical size. Jonas, who recently graduated from the Lahti Institute of Design in Finland, promises to continue pursuing eco-design with the ambition of making things simpler, at the same time as reducing environmental impact.
