This process continues with a project in collaboration with students from the high school of art and design based in Saint Etienne in southern France. A fitted kitchen specifically aimed at individuals of reduced mobility. Baptised in English "All access", the concept's primary aim is essentially ergonomic, putting all of the functions of a kitchen environment within reach of the average wheelchair user.Storage cupboards:All tall storage cupboards are wall suspended with an option for heavy pull out units to be equipped with electric motors for effortless opening. Cupboards can be mounted simply or encased in easy clean solid surface as shown in the image. All units have soft close hinges or drawer runners.Appliances:Worksurfaces, sink bowls and wall mounted unit frames are made from a white acrylic material. Seamless and extremely hard wearing with any corners rounded for maximum security and to allow simple cleaning.Surfaces and corners:Worksurfaces, sink bowls and wall mounted unit frames are made from a white acrylic material.Seamless and extremely hard wearing with any corners rounded for maximum security and to allow simple cleaning.Sinks and taps:Sink bowls are seamlessly moulded into the worksurface with taps mounted onto the back wall or into the top beside the bowl. Operation of water mix and flow by a single lever either fixed to the “bridge” or integrated into the tap.Handles:A choice of easy-grip “D” handles is available with a handleless option where the doors, drawers and slide out units are opened by electric motors or pressure catches.Ergonomics:The heart of the concept. A “bridge” of utensil drawers or hob/sink bowl facias is set at a height pre-determined for the average wheelchair user. This height can be set lower or higher dependant upon user preference.
